A Message from the Print Shop Supervisor

"The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it." These are inspired words from the Psalmist David found in Psalms 68:11.

To publish God's Word means to set it forth by whatever means that are made available. In Bible times publishing the Word was done by scribes writing letters and scrolls and by word of mouth as individuals, priests, prophets and others voiced the Word from person to person. For several centuries now, after the invention of the printing press, publish has come to mean the printed form of distribution. In modern times we have added the radio and television to the publishing process. And in the most recent times, the Internet has become a popular and convenient way to publish our thoughts and ideas. All these and whatever becomes available in the future are an aid to help spread the gospel message around the world.

"The Press" is a term to denote the printed form of news and information. It however, does not exclude the electronic broadcasts as well. When the common man hears the words press or publish, his mind tends to think of something being printed on paper that he can hold in his hands. This is not altogether accurate in our present society. Publishing is an ever-changing trade that requires each sector of society to keep pace or be left behind in the dust of competition.

The Church of God has had a strong desire and affinity to publish the Word from the very beginning. The decrees of the first general gathering of the Church were made available and sent out in the form of letters to all the churches (Acts, chapter 15). Since the re-appearance of the Church this side of the Dark Ages, the Church has recognized the value and power of the printed page and has implemented it into its ministry of reaching souls and training them in the service of the Lord.

The publishing of the gospel has always been and will remain a top priority of The Church of God. It is with honor that we serve our Lord Jesus Christ in this capacity. In Mark 13:10 Jesus said, "And the gospel must first be published among all nations." The Church of God will endeavor to continue doing this until the Rapture of the saints deems it no longer necessary.

Purpose of the Print Shop Ministry

The ministry of the Print Shop of the Church of God is to serve in the capacity of providing materials to help others become effective in reaching souls. Our Church ministry, leadership and laity are provided with gospel tracts, departmental handbooks, training manuals, and teaching aids to help equip them for their work. Sunday School literature, report forms, a monthly publication (The Evening Light), and calling cards, letterheads, etc. are furnished by our press department.

Many of these items are available in the Spanish and French languages as well as in English. Some of these are printed in satellite print shops in other countries in addition to the print shop at our General Headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee, USA.
