The General Properties Committee, General Trustees, and the Assembly Tabernacle Exploratory Committee met in Cleveland, TN on February 15th to review current fundraising efforts, examine available properties, and discuss options associated with purchasing property for a future Assembly Tabernacle. The meeting was called for and led by our General Overseer, Bishop Oscar Pimentel. From the outset of the meeting, he expressed the importance of counseling together as brethren. Proverbs 11:14 and Proverbs 24:6 state: in the “multitude of counsellors there is safety.”
All present were thankful for the funds raised to date and highlighted the importance of the leadership keeping this fundraising effort before the people. The brethren reviewed and discussed the guidelines passed by the General Assembly to ensure we stay within the approved recommendations. We also learned there is an active offer on the Tomlinson College property. We are awaiting news as to whether or not the buyer and seller will take the deal to closing. The Tomlinson College property continues to be viewed as our best option to date and the brethren are hopeful a door will open to The Church of God. In the meantime, we continue searching for other properties suitable for the Church.
Several additional properties were also discussed and the Committee is continuing to collect information for possible viewings. One such property was a 48 acre tract for sale on the corner of Urbaine and Stuart Rd. This property is selling for $75,000 per acre: total cost for land only is $3.6 million. Commercial realtors in Cleveland indicate vacant land currently sells for $70,000 – $125,000 per acre depending on location. Please continue to pray for divine direction.
