In Loving Memory: David F. Risch

Press Release

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bishop David F. Risch from this life to his heavenly reward.

David F. Risch was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania, in 1930. His parents taught him to love Jesus at an early age, and he was saved at age six, joining the Church shortly thereafter. In 1961, he heard and accepted the call to the pastoral ministry and served as pastor for several local churches in Pennsylvania. In addition, he has served as a District Overseer, State Overseer, member of numerous state and general committees, Field Secretary to the General Overseer, General Headquarters Personnel Manager, General CPMA Coordinator, and General BTI Coordinator. His most recent appointments were Trustee and member of the General Properties Committee, which he fulfilled until his passing, and for many years led the prayer for the new appointees at the conclusion of the General Assembly. He always counted it “a privilege to work for Christ in the great Church of God,” a sentiment consistently and heartily demonstrated throughout his ministry. His service impacted many, and he will be greatly missed.

Brother Risch is survived by his wife, Alvera and daughters Sandra and Shelley. He was preceded in death by his son, David, Jr. Please join us in prayer for the Risch family for God’s strength and comfort.

Funeral service will be held May 4, 2023, at 1:00 PM, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM. Funeral and visitation will be held at The Church of God, Zion Hill, at 193 Tillie Rd. NE Cleveland, TN 37312.
