On October 12, 2014, one of the most powerful cyclones in recent years hit Visakhapatnam, India with sustained wind speeds of one hundred nine miles per hour (109 mph) and winds gusts that reach one hundred sixty miles per hour (160 mph). One hundred nine people were killed and there was an estimated eleven billion dollars worth of damage done.
Thank the Lord, National Overseer Paul Sudhakar Chadalawada reports that all of our ministers and members are now safe; however, three ministers were injured in the cyclone. They have suffered the loss of church buildings, homes, and many personal items. He reports that many people lost their belongings, and this bad experience has caused much fear. There are many downed trees, and all of the food crops have been damaged. Food materials are now very high in price, and in some areas food is completely unavailable. Power has yet to be restored in some areas as well.
As soon as government restrictions on travel were lifted, Brother Sudhakar visited Visakhapatnam. Emergency Funds and food items were distributed to our eight ministers and their families in the area. Brother Sudhakar says he was also able to buy food such as rice, oil, and other needful things with the love offerings he received after the Assembly in Kentucky. As you can see, the needs are great and the saints in India would deeply appreciate your prayers and any support that can be given.
“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40).
