Prayer Requested for our General Overseer

Press Release

The following article was submitted by Allene Cox, General Assembly Band Movement Coordinator.

“But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun” (Exodus 17:12).

This passage shows the work of Assembly Band Movement at its finest. This is where brothers and sisters helped lift the hands of their leader and brother that a battle could be met with victory. As many know, Brother Smith, our General Overseer, has been experiencing an affliction for some time. He has been careful not to draw attention to his physical suffering above any other brother or sister who has also been suffering. He has not missed work or church as a result of this but has been in pain and weakened for well over a year. He does not see doctors about his health, so there is no concrete diagnosis that would answer any curiosities people may have. No matter the cause of symptoms, God is able. Brother Smith has trusted in the Lord for the care of his body from the onset of his affliction until even now.

I had permission to ask for the Church to pray for at least one full day of non-stop fasting and prayer for the leadership of The Church of God in the April issue of The Evening Light. He recognized that many of our members and ministers have great needs both physical and otherwise, and they needed prayer as much as he. I honored his request to not make that plea for prayer and fasting specific to his affliction and need for deliverance. I am now, by permission, asking you to seek God earnestly for his healing and for the healing of many of our brothers and sisters. He is our General Overseer, but he is also our brother. “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2).

His confidence is in God alone for his healing. Please honor the blood of Jesus, and encourage our brother by working with your pastor to organize a continual prayer and fasting crusade among your local churches on behalf of Brother Smith and all our suffering siblings. Prayer and fasting by shifts or otherwise would surely reach the portals of heaven and move the mighty, healing hand of God. If revival breaks out in this time of intercession, then the Lord will have been honored in every possible way. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). Thank you for your cooperation. To God be the glory!
