Jesus instituted the sacred ordinance of Feet Washing on the eve of His betrayal and crucifixion. He had just finished eating the Passover supper with His disciples for the last time. Then, without giving any reason for His action, He poured water into a basin, girded Himself with a towel and began to wash the disciples’ feet.
Feet washing was practiced by the early Church, and offered a reminder of humility and servanthood.
