The tropical breezes were blowing, the crystal blue waters shimmering, island hospitality was cheering hearts, and The Church of God was gathered together! This was the scene of the Dutch Caribbean National Convention held December 12-14, 2014 under the able and joyful leadership of Bishop Juan Pimentel. Formerly known as the Netherland Antilles, which consisted of the islands of Curaçao, Bonaire, and Aruba, these southern Caribbean islands are located just off the coast of South America. The saints from Bonaire welcomed the brethren from Curaçao and the atmosphere was one of receiving the word with all readiness of mind, praying, and rejoicing in the Holy Ghost. The theme of the convention was taken from 2 Chronicles 7:14 and taken to heart by all the delegates. The altar filled quickly, souls surrendered to the saving power of Christ, the saints were strengthened, and another member was added to The Church of God!
World Mission Coordinator, Robert Hawkins, and interpreter, Noe Solis, were blessed and honoured to preach and conduct classes while visiting the Convention and local church on Bonaire. They enjoyed the Carribbean warmth and delicious food from the deep blue sea prepared by the WMBs. Bishop Pimentel happily reports strong growth on both islands and contacts being made on other islands. This part of the world is very unique – these islands are a part of the country of the Netherlands in Europe and, while the population is not very large, there are people from all over the world that live and visit here. Many of the other Caribbean islands are also a part of the European community. God is blessing and favouring the saints of God in this region – the local church buildings and land, on which the National Convention was held, valued at approximately $300,000, was given to The Church of God by a local resident – a Christian man – and the government. Praise the Lord!
Please pray for The Church of God in Bonaire, Curaçao, and the surrounding islands – the work is growing and there is great potential! “Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands” (Isaiah 42:12).
