Colombia Holds Successful National Convention

Chinauta, a few hours’ driving time southwest of Bogata, was the rustic place for the National Convention of The Church of God in Colombia. At over 6,300 feet in elevation, the weather is pleasant year-round and suitable for agriculture, particularly coffee. This was the new National Overseer’s first Convention, and what a fine job Brother Yonny Lopez did organizing and moderating the meeting. A good spirit prevailed throughout the weekend as the Holy Ghost led us deeper into the theme, The House of Prayer – “And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer…” (Matt. 21:13). Brother Lopez currently lives in Venezuela with his family but was able to bring them all for the meetings, and with the help of your prayers and your generous giving to missions, the family has obtained their passports and is now working on all the legal documentation necessary for them to live and work in Colombia. It isn’t easy to leave your home country and family to be missionaries in another nation, but God will certainly bless the Lopez family and their loved ones many times over!
It was a blessing for everyone to see the former Overseer of Colombia and the current Overseer of Venezuela, Bishop Jose Salazar, who brought a touching and heartfelt message to the congregation about trusting and serving God with all your heart despite the trials of life. Many thanks to Brother Herman and his family, who live in Bogata, who worked so hard to see everything go smoothly during the Convention. Brother Job Banuelos of Mexico did an excellent job in form and in spirit serving as translator for our World Missions Coordinator, Bishop Robert Hawkins. In the end, the Missions Department is glad to report that God blessed everyone, souls came forward to give their hearts to Jesus Christ (including Brother Herman’s elderly mother), and the fellowship was wonderful! Praise God!
Currently, there are only a few members of The Church of God in Colombia, the rest that attended the Convention are family and friends who are learning more about God’s true Church.
We would like to thank each one for their sacrifice and hard work in making this National Convention in Colombia a success, and we look forward to seeing all that the Lord will do in the near future!
