General Overseer's Secretary Retires

Gayle Brooks celebrated her nineteenth year of employment to General Headquarters of The Church of God on April 24, 2014. The next day she was honored with a retirement party. Lunch was served at General Headquarters to Sister Gayle and all current and former employees who were able to attend. A plaque was presented that had Hebrews 6:10 included, "For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister."

Sister Gayle came to work for the first time on April 24, 1995, for the Sunday School Department to do the layout and design for our Sunday School literature. She soon was doing layout and design of tracts. She did general typesetting as needed, and served as Coordinator for the Sunday School Review Committee for several years until being moved into the position of private secretary to the General Overseer. Her work as Brother Pruitt's secretary started around November 2000 and continued until his retireme...

Twin Storms Bring Flooding to Mexico Region

Major news agencies around the world report that torrential rains have caused floods and landslides in the Acapulco region in Mexico.  These devastating storms have destroyed homes and caused countless other problems for people living in the path of the flooding.

We have received information from our National Overseer, José Bañuelos, that members from the local church in Acapulco have been impacted by the tragedy.  Members of the congregation have lost all of their personal belongings.

In order to help these faithful members of the Body of Christ, a relief effort has been established to accept donations for this need.  May God bless you as you consider what you can do to help relieve the sufferings of these brothers and sisters in the Lord.

In addition to financial contributions, let us remember to keep the saints in this affected area in our prayers daily.

Dudley Adolphus Browne, National Overseer of Saint Vincent, was born February 19, 1939 and went to be with the Lord on September 20, 2013.

Brother Browne testified of receiving Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord in 1964, and he received sanctification, the second definite work of grace, in 1966. He was filled with the Holy Ghost in 1967.

After becoming a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in the early 1970s, Brother Browne became a licensed evangelist. He ministered within the Church as a Church of Prophecy Marker Association coordinator and a pastor. Later, he was ordained as a deacon. He was appointed as the National Overseer of St. Vincent at the 103rd Annual Assembly in 2008 and continued to serve in that ministerial capacity until his death.

A Welcome to the General Assembly

"Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God" (2 Peter 3:12).

Prior to the above admonition God informs us that "...there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?" (vv. 3, 4). Scoffers abound today. They mock God's Word, laugh at His commandments, reject the gentle wooing of the Holy Ghost, deride the saints who seek to show them the way of salvation, and indulge in every sin imaginable in their efforts to satisfy the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

The answer of our Lord to this wicked generation is simple, "And behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be" (Revelation 22:12). Judgment is swiftly approaching this world, whether sinful men believe it or not. Past judgments are on record (Noah's Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah) and serve to remind us that even though God is merciful and longsuffering, He will not hold back the wrath of His...

Tour Group Travels to Israel

On November 27, 2012, an epic journey began for 31 Holy Land pilgrims, their caring and capable tour guide, Mike O'Donell (from Walking With the Prophets tour company), their amazingly competent and informative Israeli guide, Amos Davidowitz, and the best Yemenite bus driver in the world, Abner. Most all of the travelers were members of The Church of God but we were able to get acquainted with, and fall in love with, some new friends not formerly acquainted with the Church.

Upon landing in Tel Aviv (just days following a cease fire from the latest war with the Hamas terrorists who fight from Gaza), we were bused to our hotel in the northern Galilee city of Tiberius. The next morning we began bright and early. Our first stop was to have a service at the CPMA marker at Mt. Hittin. What a glorious presence of the Lord was felt as we read Scripture, sang, and heard a message by General Overseer, Stephen E. Smith. What a wonderful way to begin our tour through Israel! We spent 3 nights in northern Galilee and particip...

The Church, The Light of the World

The Church of God is the "light of the world."  This may sound like a presumptuous and arrogant statement, and indeed it would be if it were not for the fact that Jesus Christ Himself made the declaration.  We are the light because He said we are the light.  Of course, we are not the light in the same sense as Christ, for we read of Him, "In him was life; and the life was the light of men" (John 1:4).  The Church of God has no light or life in and of itself, but only as it receives these from Christ.

The role of the Church is that of proclaiming the gospel of Christ through both preaching and living the gospel.  But the light we share goes beyond merely speaking the Word and living Christ-like lives, for the gospel of Christ is the gospel of power.  Through the Holy Ghost living in and operating through the Church we have a divine agent that speaks to men's hearts, convicting and convincing them of their lost and sinful condition and of their need to accept Christ as Savior and Lord of their lives...

General Overseer & Wife Visit Asian Nations

The following article originally appeared in The Evening Light and was written by Stephen E. Smith, General Overseer of The Church of God.

A few weeks ago on our way to visit Church members in Turkey and attend the National Convention in Southern India, my wife and I had the joy of visiting Israel. It was an opportunity to walk through biblical history, to see the very places where the Old and New Testament events took place. We saw the valley of Jezreel, where Gideon and his 300 soldiers won the battle against the multitude of Midianites, and the caves of Ein Gedi where David hid from Saul. We walked the streets of Jerusalem, and saw the Garden of Gethsemane where it is said of our Lord, "And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground" (Luke 22:44). We visited the Sea of Galilee and its coastal cities where Jesus worked most of His miracles and preached so many of His sermons.

Space will not permit sharing all we experienced wh...
