“Light in a Dark World”: Nigeria Concludes 2026 National Convention

Another Convention year has come and gone, and we return all glory to God for the successful conclusion of The Church of God Nigeria’s 2026 Annual National Convention. The three-day gathering was held from June 12-14, 2026, at The Church of God Auditorium, Ijero Quarters, opposite Amunnu Comprehensive High School, Ikare Road, Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti State. 

The Convention was held under the theme, “Light in a Dark World,” drawn from Philippians 2:15. A total of 133 participants registered for the gathering, which brought together ministers, workers, members, children, and friends of the Church for worship, prayer, biblical teaching, evangelism, fellowship, and spiritual renewal. Throughout the Convention, believers were reminded that God has called His people to shine through holy living, unity, love, faithful service, and an unwavering commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ. 

The National Convention opened on Friday evening with prayer, praise and worship, a welcome address, congregational singing, Scripture reading, the Church Flag Pledge, and the Bible Pledge. The opening session also featured choir ministration, the Convention expense offering, and a presentation by the Assembly Band Movement. A major highlight of the evening was the Evangelism Program led by Brother Joshua Kingsley. Members were reminded that sharing the gospel is the responsibility of every believer and should not be left to ministers and Church leaders alone. The session called the Church to reach the lost, encourage those who have grown weak in faith, and faithfully represent Christ within the community. 

Saturday morning began with congregational singing, prayer, and the reading of Philippians 2:12-18. Reports from the Lagos and Ondo assemblies gave the congregation an opportunity to hear about the work and progress of the Church in the respective locations. 

The National Overseer’s Annual Address, titled “Light in a Dark World,” was delivered by Brother Matthew Ogunmola. Drawn from Philippians 2:15 and the wider reading of Philippians 2:12-18, the Address challenged believers to reflect the light, truth, and holiness of Jesus Christ in their conduct, speech, relationships, and service. 

Evangelist Akinola Isijola also ministered on “Striving Together for the Faith of the Gospel,” based on Philippians 1:27-29. The message emphasized that ministers, workers, and members must stand firm in one spirit, and labor together in unity for the advancement of the gospel. 

The Womens Missionary Band program was led by Sister Agnes Ogunmola under the topic, “It is Finished.” Centered on Christ’s declaration in John 19:30, the presentation reflected on His completed work on the Cross and the salvation, victory, and hope available through His sacrifice. Choir ministrations, testimonies, and congregational prayers further enriched the morning session.

The Saturday afternoon program included the Childrens Church, choir ministration, and prayer. Following the reading of Romans 12:1-3, Brother Ayodele Komolafe delivered the message, “Don’t Be Conformed to This World; Be Ye Separate.” He encouraged believers to resist ungodly influences, renew their minds, and remain separated unto God through obedience and holy living. 

The Victory Leaders Band program, led by Brother Gabriel Adebayo Ade, encouraged young people to remain committed to Christ, grow in spiritual discipline, and prepare for greater responsibilities in the Church. 

Saturday evening was marked by congregational prayer, worship, the reading of 2 Kings 5:1-10, greetings from the pastors, and a healing ministration. The message centered on the instruction in 2 Kings 5:10, “…Go and wash… and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.” The congregation was encouraged to trust God, obey His Word, and believe in His power to heal, restore, and make whole. 

The Convention concluded with the Sunday worship service. Following congregational hymns, praise and worship, prayer, and the reading of Matthew 28:19-20, Brother Ayodele Komolafe delivered the message, “The End is Nearing; Teach Them to Observe All Things.” The message stressed the urgency of the Great Commission and reminded the Church that its responsibility extends beyond winning souls to teaching and discipling believers in the commandments of Christ. The service also included a Sunday School presentation, special songs, and the preaching of the Word. Appointments were announced, prayers were offered for those appointed to serve, and the National Overseer gave final instructions to the Church. The congregation was then charged to return to their homes, assemblies, workplaces, and communities as faithful representatives of Christ. 

The Convention was not only a time of teaching and fellowship, but it also provided an opportunity to give thanks for the spiritual fruit recorded during the Convention year. Three persons were added to the Church during the year, bringing joy and encouragement to the congregation. 

Impact and Testimonies 

Following the Evangelism Program, 15 persons rededicated their lives to God and renewed their commitment to follow Christ in obedience to His Word. The Church also rejoiced over the return of Sister Oluwaseun Olarewaju, who had left the Church but returned to fellowship. 

These testimonies were received as evidence of God’s saving and restoring grace. They also reminded the Church of the importance of persistent evangelism, prayer, discipleship, and loving follow-up. Every soul added, renewed, or restored strengthens the Church’s resolve to continue reaching the lost and caring for those who have drifted away from the faith. 

A Renewed Commitment to Shine

The 2026 Nigerian National Convention renewed the call for every believer to be a light in a dark world. Through the messages, prayers, departmental programs, reports, and testimonies, members were challenged to pursue holiness, remain united, support the work of evangelism, and faithfully serve God wherever they are placed. 

Although the Convention has ended, its message remains. The Church must continue to shine through godly character, love, integrity, unity, discipleship, and the proclamation of the gospel. The spiritual commitments made during the gathering must now be reflected in the daily lives and service of all who attended. 

We give all glory, honor, and praise to God for the success of the Convention and for every life touched, renewed, and restored. We pray that the Word planted in the hearts of the people will continue to bear lasting fruit throughout the new Convention year.
